According to the governor, the move is to improve the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) to fund government programmes contained in the 2024 budget.

The committee is given the mandate to probe the amount the local government councils collected and how the fund was spent.

The governor also mandated the committee to find out the local councils that outsourced revenue collection to individuals or organisations, stressing that in the case of outsourcing, the panel would investigate whether such was done according to extant laws and recommend appropriate sanctions against erring councils.

The committee has within the next 14 days to submit its findings and recommendations to Governor Agbu Kefas.
