The Nigerian Navy has rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered several stolen outboard engines during an operation against sea robbery and kidnapping in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The operation was carried out on September 30, 2026, by the Nigerian Navy Ship JUBILEE Maritime Quick Response Team, Ibeno.
The Navy said the operation followed credible intelligence on activities of suspected sea robbers and kidnappers targeting fishermen and forcefully taking fishing boats and outboard engines.
Spokesman of the Navy, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, Director of Naval Information, who signed the statement, said the team swiftly mobilised to the area and countered the threat, leading to the rescue and recovery.
Folorunsho said the success underscores Navy’s sustained commitment to Search and Rescue, protection of lives and security of legitimate maritime activities.
He said through its ships, bases, surveillance systems and quick response teams, the Navy will sustain proactive patrols and intelligence-driven interventions to deny criminals freedom of action in the nation’s waterways.
He urged coastal communities and fishermen to continue providing timely information.
