The Katsina State Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Bello Kagara, has presented a breakdown of the state’s 2024 budget estimates of N454 billion before newsmen in Katsina.

The budget, which consists of a proposed capital expenditure of 72 per cent and a recurrent expenditure of 27 per cent, has exceeded the 2023 budget by N153 billion.

The proposed budget allocates N67 billion to the water resources sector, N66 billion to the education sector, N53 billion to works, and N38 billion to the health sector.

Similarly, N37 billion was appropriated to the environment sector, while agriculture got the lowest allocation of N20 billion.

Meanwhile, out of the recurrent expenditure, N38.5 billion will be set aside for the payment of salaries, while N17.9 billion has been allocated for the payment of pensions and gratuities.

Kagara noted that the budget will be funded with a projected FAAC allocation of N63 billion, an IGR of N40 billion, capital receipts of N185 billion, and an opening balance of N15 billion.

It would be recalled that early this month, Governor Dikko Radda presented the draft budget at the State House of Assembly without media presence at the event.

His spokesman, Ibrahim Kaula, explained that the budget was presented in a low-key manner due to the industrial action by the legislative workers union.
