Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has summoned heads of security agencies in state for emergency meeting following recent spike in security breaches, particularly killings linked to rival cult groups in Osogbo.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.
Governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Samuel Ojo, said meeting will focus on measures to stop killings and address other violent crimes. He said government wants to reassure residents and ensure security agencies remain alert.
Two separate attacks involving suspected rival cult groups in Osogbo between Friday and Sunday reportedly left two people dead and about five others injured. Following latest attacks, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, ordered tactical teams to raid suspected criminal hideouts in state capital.
Ojo also said meeting will consider measures to make forests across state safer, following recent killing of ISWAP leader in Owo, Ondo State. He warned criminals using forests as hideouts that government would not take such activities lightly.
