The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a robbery operation in Ota, neutralising one suspect and recovering two vehicles, a locally made pistol, ammunition and several items suspected to have been stolen.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Command said operatives of the Onipanu Division, under the Ota Area Command, responded to a distress call from a concerned citizen during the early hours of the day.

The incident occurred at Ijaba, Iyesi, Ota, at about 1:45 a.m., when the responding patrol team arrived at the location and encountered the armed robbers.

The statement said the suspects opened fire on sighting the operatives, prompting an immediate tactical response which resulted in the neutralisation of one suspect, while other gang members fled with suspected gunshot injuries.

A search conducted after the encounter led to the recovery of two vehicles, a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry, alongside several items suspected to have been stolen.

The recovered property included HP and Dell laptops, a PlayStation console, four mobile phones, a Samsung television, a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, clothing, an OPay ATM card, a deck, two MP devices and other household items.

Police also recovered a locally made pistol, two live cartridges and seven expended cartridges from the deceased suspect.

Other items found on the suspect included a Tecno mobile phone, three passport photographs, an MTN SIM pack, two National Identification Number (NIN) cards and cash.

The Command said it had intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, particularly those who may have sustained gunshot injuries, while investigations were ongoing to establish the ownership of the recovered vehicles and other exhibits.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt response, professionalism and courage.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing, sustained patrol operations and rapid response to security concerns across the state.
