There was pandemonium on Wednesday at the River Niger Head Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State, after a policeman allegedly shot a trader during an argument over the payment of a N5,000 bribe.

Although the allegation could not be immediately verified, sources said the victim was pushing pharmaceutical products in a wheelbarrow to a motor park to waybill them to a customer when the incident occurred.

The shooting triggered protests as traders blocked the road, leading to a massive traffic gridlock at the busy bridge.

The policeman allegedly responsible for the shooting was said to have fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Normal vehicular and human movement was later restored after security operatives intervened and de-escalated the situation.
