The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Hon Diket Plang of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the winner of the Plateau Central senatorial election.

The result was declared by INEC Returning Officer Dr Jima Lar on Saturday in Pankshin, the headquarters of the Plateau Central Senatorial Zone.

According to Dr Lar, Hon. Diket Plank scored a total vote of 131,129 to emerge as the winner, with Yohanna Gotom of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) coming in second with 127,022 votes, while Garba Pwul of the Labour Party came in third with 36,510 votes.

Following the announcement, Dr Lar declared that Hon. Diket Plang, having scored the highest votes at the election and having met the requirements of the law, has been declared the winner of the Plateau State Central Senatorial Zone.

It would be recalled that the election was stalled during the collation of results due to complaints of overvoting and manipulation of results in the Gardi ward of the Kanam local government area of the state.

To resolve the issue, INEC sent a verification team to the state to recount the votes in the affected area, and Hon. Diket was subsequently declared the winner of the senatorial election.

After being declared the winner, Hon. Plank expressed gratitude to God and the people of the Senatorial District for their understanding and patience.

He also promised to give them a good representation at the red chamber while calling on all those who contested with him to forget about the contest and join hands with him to move the district forward.
