Oyo State Government has intensified its crackdown on open grazing with the impoundment of 20 cows in two separate enforcement operations in Ibadan for alleged open grazing, residential rearing and destruction of farm crops.
The enforcement was carried out by the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) in collaboration with security operatives.
The operation followed a petition by Adewolu Farms over persistent invasion of its farmland by cattle. The farm cultivates cassava, maize, yam and cashew.
OYRLEA officials said herders attempted to move the herd on sighting the enforcement team, but nine cows were impounded.
In a second operation at dawn on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Idi-Iroko, Moniya, Ibadan, the team impounded 11 cows for alleged residential rearing and open grazing.
Chairperson of the Authority, retired Justice Aderonke Aderemi, said OYRLEA remains committed to enforcing the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019, to protect residents and farmers.
She urged residents to report violations through appropriate channels, assuring that all complaints would be treated in accordance with the law.
