The Katsina State Government has commissioned the first-ever General Hospital in Zango Local Government Area, in what officials described as a fulfillment of a long-standing aspiration of the people.
The facility, upgraded from a Comprehensive Health Centre, is equipped with modern infrastructure to provide quality secondary healthcare services. Residents will now access essential medical care without traveling long distances.
Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Umar Dikko Radda said the hospital is part of broader reforms in the health sector.
“In the last three years, we have upgraded four health facilities to General Hospitals, renovated over 280 Primary and Comprehensive Healthcare Centres, modernized specialist hospitals, established a state-of-the-art dialysis centre, expanded residency training programmes, and recruited more than 1,000 healthcare professionals to strengthen service delivery..”
The Governor also said more than 1,000 healthcare professionals have been recruited, while residency training programmes have been expanded.
In a major milestone, The Governor reveal plans to establish the first pharmaceutical manufacturing centre in the state to produce drugs and medical consumables locally.
“I am also pleased to announce that Katsina State is set to establish its first pharmaceutical manufacturing centre to produce drugs and medical consumables locally, a major milestone that will improve the availability of essential medicines and create new economic opportunities.”
On human capital, the administration announced the sponsorship of a third batch of MBBS students to Russia, following earlier batches in Egypt and Ethiopia.
“Investing in healthcare also means investing in people. While our first batch of state-sponsored MBBS students continues their studies in Egypt and the second batch is in Ethiopia, we have approved the sponsorship of a third batch to Russia to train more medical doctors for our state.
“These achievements reflect our determination to build a healthcare system that is accessible, affordable, and responsive to the needs of every citizen, regardless of where they live.”
Governor Radda urged residents of Zango to protect the new facility and work with healthcare professionals to ensure it serves future generations.
