Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has raised an alarm over an alleged plot to disrupt the ongoing governorship election citing voter intimidation and technical glitches across multiple polling units.
Adeleke who is the Candidate of the Accord Party made the allegation shortly after casting his ballot at Unit 009, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area.
He alleges numerous reports of malfunctioning Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, machines and targeted harassment of voters in key local government areas.
The governor said slow accreditation processes had caused severe backlogs, frustrating voters who turned out in large numbers.
The governor alleged that the APC, having realised that it was losing the election, had prepared fake results for some local government areas and was seeking to replace the authentic results with the fabricated documents during the collation process.
“We have it on good authority that Osun APC has written fake results for some local governments. The APC is looking for ways to swap the fake results with the original results,” Adeleke said.
He also warned against any attempt to move local government collation centres to Osogbo, insisting that results must be collated at the designated local government centres in accordance with established procedures.
“All collation must be done at each local government. Under no circumstances should the local government collation be taken to the state capital. We will resist such moves,” the governor said.
Adeleke expressed confidence in his victory, declaring that he expected to win the election by a wide margin. “I am winning this election with wide margins. I have God and the people,” he told supporters at his polling unit.
Meanwhile, reports from various parts of the state indicated that voters turned out in large numbers to participate in the election despite concerns over alleged gunshot incidents and attempts to create fear among the electorate.
The governor subsequently appealed to Osun residents to defend their votes and exercise their constitutional right to vote and be voted for.
