The Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 arraigned three persons before the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, over alleged visa fraud to the tune of N30,054,600.
The defendants — Emmanuel Serah Motunrayo, Awotunde Olugbenga and Idowu Olugbemi Sunday — appeared before Justice Olusola Adetujoye.
Motunrayo and Olugbenga were arraigned on a 47-count charge bordering on forgery, uttering of documents and obtaining money by false pretence.
The EFCC alleged that the duo collected a total of N23,404,600 from two victims, Oluwatobi Adeoluwa Iyanda and Oyewale Tunji Bello, under the pretext of securing Canadian visas and flight tickets.
According to Count 2, on or about March 1, 2025 in Ibadan, the defendants obtained N527,000 from Iyanda by falsely representing that they would secure a valid Canadian visa and flight ticket.
In Count 42, they were accused of making a false Canadian visa dated June 20, 2025 with Travel Doc. No. B011745448 in the name of Iyanda. Another count alleged that they fraudulently uttered a fake Canadian visa dated July 6, 2025 with Travel Doc. No. B50125702 in the name of Bello.
The prosecution said the defendants received N12,368,100 from Iyanda and N11,036,500 from Bello, and later reneged on their promises.
They pleaded “not guilty” to all charges.
Prosecution counsel, Mohammed Abideen, prayed for a trial date and remand of the defendants. Defence counsel, Jimoh Wasiu, said bail applications had been filed.
Justice Adetujoye adjourned the matter to August 26, 2026 for hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendants be remanded at Agodi Correctional Centre.
Second Arraignment
In a related development, the EFCC on Monday, August 17, 2026 also arraigned Idowu Olugbemi Sunday before Justice Adetujoye on a 4-count charge of forgery, uttering and obtaining money by false pretence.
He was accused of defrauding Okanlawon Tunji Ajao of N6,650,000 between June 2025 and January 2026 under the guise of securing a Canadian visa for him and his family.
Sunday also pleaded “not guilty”. Prosecution counsel, Lanre Suleiman, sought a trial date and remand, while defence counsel, Tiwalade Shittu, moved a bail application.
The judge adjourned the case to August 26, 2026 for bail hearing and remanded the defendant at Agodi Correctional Centre.
