Police in Kaduna State have rescued 75 people abducted by bandits in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.*
The victims, including men, women and children, were travelling in commercial buses when they were attacked and kidnapped at Folwaya Village near Birnin Gwari on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, said in a statement that the victims were rescued following information from the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Birnin Gwari branch.
According to Hassan, the abductors, armed with AK-47 rifles and other weapons, took the victims into a forest and hid them inside a cave in a mountainous area.
A team of police operatives from the Birnin Gwari Area Command was deployed to the location. The police said the bandits fled on sighting the heavily armed operatives, abandoning the captives.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the NURTW for the timely information and praised the Area Commander and his men for their swift response.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
The CP also warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, saying such actions could lead to loss of innocent lives.
