A Magistrates’ Court in Kano on Friday ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, in a correctional facility for allegedly cutting off her boyfriend’s manhood.

Idris, of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, is facing two counts of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.

Prosecution counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court that the offence was committed on July 27 at Badawa Quarters, Kano.

According to her, at about 11:00 a.m., the defendant allegedly severed her boyfriend’s manhood with a knife after discovering he planned to marry another woman.

She said the management of Durbar Hotel, Badawa, reported the incident to Badawa Police Division at about 12:50 p.m. on the same day.

“The victim was immediately rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, Kano, for medical treatment,” Sani-Buhari said.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges, which the prosecutor said contravened Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Sadiya Usman ordered Idris remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the case to September 9 for further mention.
