Police in Osun State have arrested the State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Mayowa Asejoorin, in connection with gunshots fired during an All Progressives Congress, APC, rally in Ilesa on Saturday.
Four persons were reportedly injured in the incident. It was gathered that APC supporters were attacked by some Accord Party chieftains during the rally in Ilesa metropolis, and sporadic gunshots were heard.
Among those injured was a 14-year-old boy, Ilesanmi. An eyewitness, Kola Adeoti, said the boy was hit by a stray bullet on the thigh while at his mother’s shop.
As at press time, no death had been recorded. The injured victims have been taken to hospital for treatment.
Adeoti also alleged that personnel of a security outfit escorting the Accord chieftains shot directly at APC members, an action that triggered protests in Ilesa.
Confirming the arrest, Osun Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said Commissioner Asejoorin was in custody in connection with the incident.
