Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have intercepted a suspected arms trafficking ring in Kaduna State, recovering several illegal firearms concealed within a vehicle.
The intelligence-driven operation, carried out by troops of Sector 7, took place during the early hours of Monday at the Samaru Checkpoint in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the transit of illicit weapons from Jos, Plateau State, to Niger State, security personnel conducted a targeted stop-and-search operation.
During the search of an ash-colored Mercedes-Benz, troops discovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and four submachine guns hidden inside the vehicle. One suspect who attempted to evade arrest during the operation was shot while trying to flee. The individual was subsequently evacuated to the medical center in Kafanchan, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Preliminary findings indicate that the seized firearms were allegedly supplied by two suspected arms dealers operating out of Jos and were bound for a recipient in Niger State.
Military officials described the bust as a significant disruption to illegal weapon distribution networks and reiterated their commitment to working alongside other security agencies to safeguard national security.
