The Oyo State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has raised an alarm over the recent abduction of a primary school headmaster in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, demanding immediate intervention from security agencies to ensure his safe return.

The victim, M.K. Owoade, who serves as the headmaster of Nomadic Basic School in Ogodu, Igbojaye, was reportedly abducted by gunmen on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM while working on his farmland.

In a joint statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital, NUT State Chairman Hassan Fatai and State Secretary Salami Olukayode described the incident as deeply troubling.

The union emphasized that the abduction serves as a stark reminder of the escalating security threats confronting educators and school staff across the nation.

The NUT leadership has appealed directly to government authorities and law enforcement agencies to deploy all necessary resources for a swift rescue operation.

“We call on the government, security agencies, and relevant authorities to intensify efforts at securing the immediate rescue of the abducted headmaster and ensuring the safety of teachers and all citizens within the communities and their workplaces,” the statement read.

While extending support to Owoade’s family, colleagues, and students, the union urged its members to remain highly vigilant during this period.

Local reports indicate that the abductors have since demanded a ₦30 million ransom for the release of the 60-year-old educator.
