The Imo State Police Command has detained a traffic warden and two personnel of State Civil Guard Corps captured on camera harassing and extorting motorist allegedly driving without driver’s licence in Owerri on October 8, 2026.
On Thursday, video was shared by one Chi Dubem who accused traffic warden and others of extorting N15,000 from him.
He alleged that officials spotted him where his car had broken down and came there to extort him.
Reacting to video, the command’s spokesperson, SP Okoye, said the conduct depicted in the video stands condemned, unacceptable and contrary to standards of discipline and integrity expected of law enforcement personnel.
Okoye said police officer involved has been identified as Inspector Chinewe Ejiogu, attached to Shell Camp Divisional Police Headquarters, while two State Civil Guard Corps personnel have been identified as Mr Kelechi Nzediagwu and Mr Onyedikachi Chibuike. They are currently detained at State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.
He said Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has directed Command’s Complaint Response Unit, CRU, to investigate incident.
Affected motorist is urged to report to unit and provide relevant information to assist investigation. Appropriate disciplinary action will follow upon its conclusion.
