President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently intervene in the deteriorating condition of the Benin-Agbor-Asaba and Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti road corridors.*
The directive comes amid mounting complaints from motorists and commuters who have spent hours and in some cases days stranded on the affected routes across Edo, Delta, Ekiti and Kogi states.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze.
“President Tinubu, GCFR, has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently intervene and ensure that necessary corrective actions are taken to restore movement on the affected roads as quickly as possible,” Umahi said.
As part of the intervention, the Minister of State for Works has been mandated to lead a team to the Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti axis to assess the damage and commence immediate remedial works. Ministry officials were already on site as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Umahi also travelled to Benin, Edo State, alongside members of the National Assembly Works Committees to initiate a similar intervention on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road.
A stakeholders’ meeting is expected to hold in Benin with representatives of the Edo and Delta state governments as well as the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to work out immediate measures to ease movement on the strategic corridor.
The Minister expressed concern over the hardship caused to road users and apologised to commuters who were stranded or delayed.
He took responsibility for the situation and assured that the Federal Government’s intervention would go beyond temporary palliatives.
“Immediate remedial actions will be implemented alongside permanent solutions aimed at restoring the roads and improving their long-term reliability,” he added.
