Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged the new leadership of the ECOWAS Commission to prioritise regional unity and integration to accelerate economic growth in West Africa.
Shettima made the call on Friday when he received a delegation of the Commission led by its newly elected President, Gen. Birame Diop (rtd).
He charged the new ECOWAS leadership to give greater attention to private-sector participation in the development and execution of the Lagos-Abidjan Highway, a flagship regional infrastructure project.
The Vice President congratulated Diop on his election and highlighted the challenges facing the sub-region, stressing the need for greater cooperation among West African leaders and citizens.
He said stronger regional collaboration was critical to advancing the interests and economies of ECOWAS member states as the Commission enters a new phase.
