Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on Thursday swore in seven new commissioners with a charge to serve with integrity and prioritize public interest.*
Performing the ceremony at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia said their appointment was a call to service, not just an elevation to office.
He reminded them that the oath they took was to serve the people of Benue State, not themselves or any interest group.
“Public office is temporary, but the legacies you create through your service can endure for generations,” he said.
The Governor urged them to be accessible, visit communities, and understand realities on ground instead of relying only on reports. He also called for inter-ministerial cooperation and idea-sharing to deliver good governance.
“I expect you to communicate, cooperate and share ideas. Where one ministry needs the support of another, provide it. Where responsibilities overlap, work together,” he added.
Governor Alia assured them of his support and expressed hope that their service would bring good governance to the daily lives of citizens.
Responding on behalf of the new commissioners, Rt. Hon. Nick Eworo thanked the Governor for the trust reposed in them and pledged diligence, fairness and accountability.
The newly sworn-in commissioners are:
- Hon. Kuma Aii Yenge
- Hon. Roy Ashirga Terna
- Hon. Angwa Egbe Monday
- Hon. Elizabeth Onma Ogenyi
- Hon. Solomon Iorpev
- Hon. Nick Eworo
- Hon. Ankwa Amo
The Governor also swore in Hon. Godwin Anya as Member of the Assembly Service Commission, and inaugurated Rev. Fr. Patrick Tor Alumuku as Chairman, with members of the Board of Benue Television.
