The National President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim Kwaya-Bura, has called for a stronger and more structured partnership between NAWOJ and the Nigerian Army to boost media-military collaboration in support of national security.
Comrade Kwaya-Bura made the call on Friday, August 21, 2026, during a courtesy visit by NAWOJ leadership to the Department of Civil-Military Affairs at Army Headquarters, Abuja.
The visit was aimed at fostering stronger relations between the media and the Nigerian Army and establishing a strategic partnership to promote national security, peace and development.
She commended officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army for their sacrifices in defending the nation and protecting its territorial integrity. She added that journalists have a duty not only to report security operations but also to promote public understanding of the challenges facing security forces.
The NAWOJ President called for collaboration in areas such as capacity building for women journalists, security awareness, responsible conflict reporting, countering misinformation, civil-military relations, peacebuilding and strategic communication.
She also disclosed NAWOJ’s plan to institutionalise the “Women in Security, Peace and Conflict” platform as a forum for sustained dialogue on security, peacebuilding and the role of women in promoting peace. She sought the Army’s partnership, particularly through the Department of Civil-Military Affairs, for subsequent editions of the initiative.
Responding, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Musa Awwal Etsu-Ndagi, welcomed NAWOJ’s partnership. He said the Nigerian Army is committed to gender inclusivity, citing the appointment of a female senior officer as Army spokesperson and the establishment of the Nigerian Army Women Command.
Major General Etsu-Ndagi described the Army as media-friendly and pledged continued collaboration with NAWOJ to promote accurate information and strengthen civil-military relations.
Also present were the Deputy Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Aminu M. Umar; Deputy Director, Civil Sponsorship, Colonel Y. Micha; representative of the Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel J. E. Nnuakalu; and other senior officers.
