The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Ayomide Ojo, for allegedly vandalising and stealing house-wiring cables valued at N2.69 million in Ogbomoso.
Ojo was arrested at about 5:30 a.m. on September 21 by operatives of the Monitoring Unit attached to the Ogbomoso Base during anti-crime patrol along Bosunla Street.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspect was accosted while carrying a sack filled with house-wiring cables suspected to have been removed from a building under construction.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to carrying out the act with an accomplice identified as Warris, who is currently at large.
He allegedly led operatives to an uncompleted building opposite Akala House, where the cables were vandalised.
The owner of the property, Salaudeen Rasaq, valued the stolen cables at N2.692 million.
Ayanlade said investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplice and receivers of vandalised cables, urging residents to provide useful information on activities of vandals.
