The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has met with representatives of civil society organisations to discuss security concerns ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
The CSOs, led by Auwal Musa Rafsanjani of CISLAC, raised issues including voter protection, political violence, misinformation, and participation of vulnerable groups.
Disu assured the delegation that the concerns would be addressed. He reaffirmed them of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to professionalism, impartiality and neutrality during the election.
The IGP said adequate personnel would be deployed to polling units, with special attention to persons with disabilities.
He urged stakeholders to support a peaceful and credible election and to cooperate with security agencies by sharing credible information.
