The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has visited victims of the Head Bridge incident in Onitsha and assured them of full police support, including coverage of their medical expenses.
The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the incident occurred when a suspect allegedly resisted arrest, resulting in gunshot injuries.
Addressing the crowd at the scene on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, CP Nnanna said the immediate priority of the Command was to ensure that the victims recover fully.
He later visited them in hospital where he gave the assurance and pledged to personally see to the payment of their bills.

The CP also ordered a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly the events that led to the discharge of a firearm.
He stressed that the probe would establish the facts and ensure that appropriate action is taken based on its outcome.
CP Nnanna appealed to residents to remain calm and peaceful, and to allow the investigation to run its course.
Meanwhile, normalcy has returned to the area as traffic has been de-escalated, with free flow of vehicular and human movement recorded at the Head Bridge.
