The Team Kwara has made another record of One Gold and other Medals in the National Sports Festival going-on in Benin City, Edo State, making the number of the Gold Medals won for the State Five.

The Gold Medal, harvested after the Kwara Team Squash beat Delta Squash Team 2/0 in the Female Doubles, and the other Medals, will bring the total number of Medals the State has recorded to Thirty-Two.

After winning the Medals, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Bar. (Mrs.) Iyabo Funke Banire, lauded the athletes for their consistent courage, determination and sense of patriotism displayed in all the games they have played.

She contended that Kwara players displayed commitment and thrilling skills in every match, adding that even in the matches they lost to their opponents, their performance was remarkable.

Banire agreed that the Kwara State Government has been doing well for Team Kwara, envisaging that the athletes’ record in this festival will motivate the Government more as the latter will attend more to their requests to enhance their productivity in the subsequent tournaments.

“Though some players did not win Gold, they performed very well. Many of them are very good. I think that will spur the State Government to do more for them, to look into their requests if they have one tournament or another. That will enhance their productivity”, she explained.

She maintained that the festival proferred a platform for interactions with other sports men and women, insisting that both the athletes and the officials from Kwara states will build on the lessons gained for better performance in the next festival.

The Permanent Secretary confessed that she was elated seeing the Kwara squash female athletes play with their opponents.
