The Anambra State Police Command has commenced investigation into a building demolition incident at Otolo-Nnewi, Nnewi North LGA, where one person died following collapse of part of the structure.
Police said operatives attached to Otolo Divisional Headquarters responded promptly upon receiving report, cordoned off area and commenced preliminary investigation. The scene was documented, while the deceased, later identified as Bakeru Iwal, 25, was evacuated to mortuary for preservation pending autopsy.
Preliminary information indicates building was being demolished when a section suddenly collapsed, trapping one of the workers.
Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed thorough and professional investigation to establish circumstances surrounding incident and determine culpability, with appropriate action based on outcome.
The Command urges public to remain calm and allow investigation proceed, adding further updates will be provided.
