Niger State Government has supported families of each of 37 artisanal miners that lost their lives in NSCDC Custody with N5 million, while 32 survivors were presented with N2 million each.
Executive Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, who presented cheques to Emir of Minna, Umar Faruk Bahago, at Council Chamber, Government House, Minna, said gesture is to support them and cushion effect.
He said gesture is also to support them to venture into other things and encouraged them to desist from unprofessional mining.
Bago also disclosed that his administration has asked State Universal Basic Education Board to establish schools that will encourage children to enrol in schools instead of risking their lives in artisanal mining.
Governor used medium to appreciate families of deceased and survivors for their perseverance and patience.
Governor also commended Emir of Minna, Umar Faruk Bahago, for his efforts at promoting peace in his domain and for his role in counselling families of deceased.
Governor equally appreciated him for his continuous support to his administration.
In his response, Emir of Minna, Umar Faruk Bahago, who spoke on behalf of families of deceased and survivors, appreciated governor for kind gesture.
He promised that Emirate will ensure that all money gets to rightful beneficiaries.
