The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has seized alcoholic beverages worth estimated N300 million during enforcement operations against banned sachet drinks and alcoholic beverages packaged in PET bottles below 200ml in Lagos State.
Raids were conducted at Ile-Epo Market, Ojuwoye Market in Mushin and Oke-Arin Market on Lagos Island. Several distributors and retailers were arrested at Ile-Epo, while officials evacuated cartons of prohibited products from affected markets.
NAFDAC said investigations showed that some distributors and retailers were allegedly hoarding banned products amid increased demand and rising prices. Agency warned operators against selling, distributing or storing prohibited alcoholic beverages.
Regulator reiterated that ban on alcoholic drinks packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml remains in force.
NAFDAC said enforcement is part of its ongoing efforts to remove prohibited products from circulation and ensure compliance with regulation.
