The Commanding Officer of Nigerian Company 4, NIGCOY 4, ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau, ESSMGB, Lieutenant Colonel Bibode Clarke, has formally handed over command of the Nigerian Contingent to Lieutenant Colonel Afam Junior Chidi, the Commanding Officer of Nigerian Company 5, NIGCOY 5.

The transition followed the successful rotation of Nigerian troops and culminated in a handing and taking over ceremony held at the Nigerian Contingent Headquarters in Bissau on August 3, 2026.
In his farewell address, Lt Col Clarke described the rotation as a routine exercise aimed at rejuvenating operational effectiveness and sustaining the professionalism of the Nigerian Army.
He thanked officers and soldiers for their support during his one-year tenure, noting that the contingent contributed significantly to peace, security and stability in Guinea-Bissau. He urged personnel of NIGCOY 5 to uphold discipline and professionalism.
In his remarks, Lt Col Chidi commended his predecessor for exemplary leadership and a seamless transition. He pledged to consolidate on the achievements of NIGCOY 4 and continue supporting the ECOWAS mission mandate.
Highlights included signing of handing over notes, inspection of the Quarter Guard, and handover of the company flag.
