The family of the late comic actor John Okafor, widely known as Mr. Ibu, has received ₦7.5 million in donations following a public appeal regarding their difficult living conditions.
The support follows a viral video posted earlier this week by content creator King Mitchy, which highlighted the struggles faced by the actor’s widow and children.
The family had reported being without electricity for two months, difficulty accessing clean water, and an inability to afford school fees for the children.
In an update shared via Instagram on Friday, King Mitchy confirmed that the funds were raised through the generosity of the public. She noted that the money is designated to cover essential needs, including the children’s outstanding school fees, examination costs for the eldest daughter, and the family’s rent.
The content creator also clarified that her involvement began only after being alerted to the family’s plight by a neighbor, emphasizing that her primary goal throughout the process has been to ensure the children receive necessary support.
Following a discussion with the widow regarding their current circumstances, King Mitchy advised the family to relocate to a more sustainable and affordable residence.
John Okafor, a beloved figure in the Nigerian film industry, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 after a prolonged illness.
