The Lagos State Government has announced a reward for anyone who can help identify a man caught on video illegally dumping refuse on the Alapere Link Bridge.
The announcement was made by Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), following the release of a video showing the suspect in the act.
According to Gbadegesin, the video was recorded on Monday, May 20, 2025, by a LAWMA field officer working in collaboration with a nearby trader who volunteered to support surveillance efforts in the area.
In an official statement, Gbadegesin expressed frustration over the continued illegal dumping on the bridge despite multiple rounds of public sensitization and direct community engagement.
“Over the past few months, LAWMA has received repeated reports of indiscriminate waste dumping on the Alapere Link Bridge,” he said. “Despite several awareness campaigns, this illegal activity has persisted—undermining the efforts of our accredited PSP operators and posing serious risks to public health and the environment.”
He further revealed that the individual seen in the video is believed to have engaged in similar acts repeatedly over time.
Efforts are currently underway to trace the offender through the vehicle’s license plate, but Gbadegesin noted that the agency is also encouraging members of the public to assist in identifying the culprit.
“If you recognize the individual in this video or have any information that can lead to their identification and arrest, please contact LAWMA immediately via direct message on our official social media handle (@Lawma_gov) or by emailing info@lawma.gov.ng. Your identity will be protected,” he assured.
LAWMA has also introduced a reward for any credible information that leads to the successful apprehension of the suspect. The offer extends to tips about other individuals involved in illegal waste dumping across the state.
“This is part of our commitment to holding environmental offenders accountable and ensuring a cleaner, safer Lagos for all residents,” Gbadegesin stated.
He concluded the statement with a call to action: “Let’s put an end to this behavior. Together, we can protect #OurLagos.”
The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any incidents of environmental violations to the appropriate authorities.
