Health workers in Katsina State have announced plans to embark on a seven-day warning strike from midnight on September 8, 2026, over the state government’s failure to address their outstanding demands.
The decision was taken by the Assembly of Health Care Professionals in the state following the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum issued to the government. The assembly said repeated efforts to get government action on issues affecting health workers had yielded little result.
The planned industrial action is being supported by several healthcare unions, including nurses, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists and other health sector employees.
According to the leadership of the assembly, members unanimously agreed to proceed with the warning strike after reviewing the government’s response to their concerns. The group said issues affecting workers have remained unresolved for years despite several engagements.
The unions warned that the warning strike could be followed by an indefinite shutdown of services if the government fails to take concrete steps to meet their demands before the seven-day action ends.
They expressed disappointment over what they described as a lack of commitment to addressing legitimate concerns affecting healthcare workers and service delivery in the state.
The assembly appealed to residents to bear with any inconvenience that may arise from the strike, saying all channels for dialogue and peaceful resolution had been explored without success.
The unions urged the state government to act swiftly to prevent a prolonged disruption of healthcare services and restore confidence among workers in the sector.
