The Katsina State Government has flagged off the distribution of 90,000 bags of 100kg assorted grains to vulnerable households across the state’s 34 Local Government Areas.
The exercise, which began yesterday, is part of efforts to cushion the effects of current economic challenges and ensure government support reaches those most in need.
According to the statement, distribution will be handled through Community Level Committees in all 361 wards to ensure fairness, transparency, accountability and proper targeting.
“I have directed all stakeholders to ensure that every deserving beneficiary receives the support without discrimination based on social status, personal relationships or other considerations,” the statement said.
While noting that food palliatives provide immediate relief, the government said its long-term strategy focuses on strengthening food production and household incomes.
It listed ongoing investments in agriculture, irrigation, farm inputs, youth empowerment, women’s economic participation and community development as key to building a productive and self-reliant Katsina State.
The statement also appreciated the Community Development Programme, Community Level Committees, Local Government Councils, traditional and religious leaders, security agencies, civil servants and other stakeholders for their support toward the intervention.
The goal, it added, is to ensure farmers prosper, young people have opportunities, women participate actively in the economy, and vulnerable citizens receive needed support.
