Kano state government on Saturday has said that it spent N800 million on the rehabilitation of dilapidated structures in public primary and secondary schools in the state in 2021.

The state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Sanusi Sa’idu-Kiru, disclosed this to newsmen in Kano while rendering an account of the activities of the Ministry in 2021.

Sa’idu-Kiru explained that the measure was in line with the government’s determination to enhance teaching and learning in the state.

He noted that some of the schools renovated included Magon Secondary School and Rimin-gata Secondary School, among others.

On the welfare of teachers, he said that there were no outstanding promotions, adding that “teachers are promoted as at when due.”

The commissioner added that the government had always ensured prompt payment of teachers’ salaries as well as regular training to boost their capacities.

Sa’Idu-Kiru further explained that the government spent N145 million on the feeding of 22,000 boarding students every two weeks in the year under review.

He said that the government also renovated its Community Education Resource Centre, saddled with the responsibility of training married women on vocational skills.

“The centre has continued to offer girls who dropped out of schools after marriage an opportunity to continue their education.

“They are assisted to prepare for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) to enable them to pursue their education from their matrimonial homes.

“The Kano government spent N56 million on the renovation of the centre, including the provision of sewing machines, laboratory equipment, furniture, and other vocational skills kits,” he said.
