The Jigawa State Government on Friday held a funeral prayer for the late Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, at the Emir’s Palace in Gumel.
The prayer, conducted at 5 pm in accordance with Islamic rites, was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, clerics and residents from across the state who gathered to pay their last respects.
The late monarch reportedly died on Thursday afternoon in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
In a statement earlier issued by the Secretary to the State Government, the government had called on members of the public to attend the prayer and also urged Imams of Jumu’ah mosques across Jigawa to offer special prayers for the repose of the deceased’s soul.
The government declared a period of mourning and commiserated with the Gumel Emirate and the people of Jigawa over the passing of the first-class monarch.
