Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has clarified his letter banning distribution of food and non food items to resettled communities.
The Governor made the clarification during an interactive session with Humanitarian and Development Partners providing interventions to the state which include, UN organization, CSOs, and NGOs.
The meeting was facilitied by Borno State Agency for the coordination of Sustainable Development and Himanitarian Response.
During the interaction, the Governor clears the air about the ban on intervention to resettled communities without prior knowledge of the government.
Acknowledging the partners’ support to the state, he appreciated all for complementing the efforts of the government, saying, the return of the IDPs is a citizen driven demand and is inline with Kampala Convention.
The government has discussed with all the key stakeholders, including the security on resettleing communities by providing adequate measure of security.
Adding that government will ensure sustainable livelihood for the people after resettlement. For that, three options were given to the IDPs: first to stay in Maiduguri, return to the resettled communities, or restlled in the IDPs near their communities.
To achieve this, government has made adequate arrangement to support the returnees through SMEs and provision of food items, as well as cash support that will sustain them for three months. Explaining, the governor reiterated his goal for building resilience among the returnees.
The governor said any partner will support the existing IDPs and other communities through government approval.
He urged them to fish out fake NGOs operating in the state as his government is doing everything to streamline every activities of the partners in the state.
There were questions and answers sessions. The UN organization and other partners have quench their thirst after the Governor’s clarification and measures taken to ensure sustainable partnership that will build resilience for self reliance.
