The Kano State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved N8.2 billion for the execution of 15 major projects across the state.
The approval was announced in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, after deliberations at the 24th Executive Council Meeting held on Wednesday at the Kano Government House.
According to the statement, the funds will be used for various infrastructural, educational, and environmental projects aimed at improving Kano State’s living standard.
A significant portion of the funds—N2.7 billion—was allocated for constructing a one-story block of four classrooms in each of the 44 local government areas of the state.
Another major project includes the cost review of the dualization of key roads, including the Government House Roundabout to Lodge Road, Race Course Road, and Daula Hotel Roundabout. This project, which also covers Nasarawa Hospital Road, Dawaki Road, and Lugard Road, will cost N2.3 billion.
Additionally, N1.8 billion was approved for the remodeling of the Africa House Conference Hall at Government House, along with consultancy services.
To sustain the power supply, the state allocated N1.2 billion for the supply of 479,000 liters of diesel and 16,000 liters of PMS for the Kano State Water Board at Challawa.
Other allocations include N790 million to settle electricity debts with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), N378 million for the payment of foodstuff suppliers to boarding schools, and N303 million for the printing of security documents by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc.
The government also approved N117 million for the establishment of a Model Village in Doga, Gabasawa Local Government Area, and N482 million for the completion of solar-powered streetlights along the 5km dualized road in Dawakin Tofa.
To enhance agricultural development, the state set aside N568 million for the procurement of 300 motorcycles for the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KANRDA) Extension Service Office and farm managers. Another N17 million was earmarked for the first phase of a mini-irrigation scheme across the state.
The Executive Council also directed the Ministry of Environment to ensure the full implementation of Kano State’s Climate Change Policy. The policy aims to achieve a low-carbon, climate-resilient environment that supports sustainable development.
Furthermore, the council established a Project Monitoring Committee to oversee the implementation of the approved projects.
The committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Project Monitoring, includes members such as the Commissioners for Information, Education, Works, Special Duties, and the State Chairman of Kano Proper.
Speaking on the importance of the monitoring committee, Sanusi Bature stated, “Governor Yusuf is committed to ensuring that every project is completed with the highest standards.
The newly formed committee will ensure transparency and accountability in the execution of these projects.”
