Former Chairman of Idanre Local Government in Ondo State, Hon. Olabanji Akinkuowo, is dead.
A terse statement by his younger brother, Korede Adeyemi, confirmed the late politician passed away Wednesday night, September 30, 2026, at Deborah Multi Specialist Hospital, Akure.
A socialite and sports enthusiast, Akinkuowo was popularly known as Sweet Banana among friends and admirers.
He also served as Chairman of Ondo State Library Board during the administration of former Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
Widely loved for his social connections and amiable disposition, Sweet Banana will be missed by his family, friends and the entire Idanre community.
Meanwhile, scores of Idanre elites have been paying tributes to the late politician.
Veteran journalist, Eric Teniola, described his death as “tragic and a huge loss,” while President General of Idanre Development Assembly, Anthony Omolola, said “this is sad indeed, uncle is gone.”
Babu Akinbobola, another icon from Idanre, recalled his sterling qualities: “Hon. Banji Akinkuowo was a wonderful egbon when we worked together at Grant Advertising Limited many years ago. May almighty God be with his family at this time and always.”
