Ekiti State Government has introduced new measures to reduce education costs, including longer textbook review cycles and formal approval for book reuse from the 2025/2026 session.

Under the policy, primary school textbooks will now be reviewed every six years, while secondary school textbooks move from three years to four years. Both adjustments will follow standards set by the National Educational Research and Development Council, NERDC.

In an effort to further reduce costs for parents and guardians, the state government has officially authorized the reuse of textbooks by younger siblings, provided that the materials remain in good condition.

Additionally, the Ministry of Education has reaffirmed that the ban on graduation ceremonies for all levels including kindergarten, nursery, primary, and secondary schools remains strictly in effect. This directive applies to both public and private institutions.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Bayode Ogunmola, stated that these measures are designed to curb the social pressures and excessive costs often associated with school ceremonies, while making quality education more accessible and affordable across the state.

The government has characterized these policies as non-negotiable and has cautioned school proprietors, administrators, and stakeholders that failure to comply with these directives will result in appropriate sanctions.
