The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared full preparedness for the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for 20 June 2026, assuring stakeholders of a credible, transparent, and peaceful process.
The reaffirmation of INEC Ekiti governorship election readiness 2026 was given by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, during a press briefing on Monday.
Omoseyindemi said the commission has recorded substantial progress in line with its election timetable, including finalisation of the voter register, which will soon be displayed for public scrutiny.
He also confirmed that the schedule for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be announced soon, reiterating that only registered voters with valid PVCs will be allowed to vote.
According to him, recruitment and training of ad-hoc staff are ongoing, with emphasis on electoral procedures such as the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and result transmission protocols.
INEC further stated that sensitive and non-sensitive election materials have been procured and secured, with logistics arrangements in place for distribution to polling units across the state.
The commission added that results will be transmitted electronically to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) to ensure transparency in the electoral process.
On security, INEC said it is working with relevant agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to prevent violence and ensure order during the poll.
REC identified risks such as vote buying, misinformation, political violence, voter apathy, and logistical challenges in remote areas, noting that targeted measures have been deployed to address them.
He also highlighted special provisions for persons with disabilities, voter education campaigns, and inclusive participation strategies aimed at boosting turnout.
Omoseyindemi urged political parties to comply with electoral guidelines and called on voters to participate peacefully in the exercise.
