Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers after a dramatic 4-1 penalty shootout win over Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies in Ouagadougou on Saturday night.
The match ended 2-2 in regulation time before the Nigerian champions showed nerves of steel from the spot. Edo Queens converted all four of their penalties, while Ampem Darkoa missed twice and scored once.
The victory secures Edo Queens’ place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and crowns them WAFU-B champions.
It was also a night of individual honours for the Benin City side. Winger Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was named WAFU-B Player of the Tournament, while Doosuur Anastasia Atume finished as top scorer to claim the Golden Boot award.
With the regional title in the bag, Edo Queens will now turn their attention to the continental stage.
The CAF Women’s Champions League is scheduled for South Africa, where the Nigerian champions will seek to build on their achievement and fly the nation’s flag.
