The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has raised the alarm over the compromise of its official X account, warning members of the public to disregard any suspicious or unauthorised information posted on the platform.
In a statement, Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the incident is being treated as a cybersecurity breach.
He added that technical measures have been activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access, while efforts are ongoing to regain full control.
“The Defence Headquarters assures the public that efforts are ongoing to fully restore control of the official account. Consequently, members of the public are advised to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content that may be posted from the account during this period,” Uba said.
The DHQ did not disclose when the compromise was detected, who may be responsible, or whether any unauthorised posts had already been published.
The military, however, assured Nigerians that steps are being taken to strengthen its information infrastructure and prevent further breaches.
Pending restoration, Uba advised the public to rely on the Armed Forces’ other active official communication platforms for verified information on military activities and operations.
“The DHQ remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of information security and ensuring that the public continues to receive accurate, timely and credible information,” the statement said.
The DHQ also thanked the public for its understanding and vigilance, and promised further updates on the incident.
