Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has fixed November 19 for judgment in a suit challenging emergence of former Governor Yahaya Bello as senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Kogi Central.
The judge fixed the date Monday after parties adopted their final briefs.
The suit was filed by APC senatorial aspirant, Momoh Yusuf Obaro, who dragged APC, Bello and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court, claiming to be lawful winner of May 18 primary election.
Obaro prayed the court to declare him APC candidate and compel INEC to accept and publish his name as Kogi Central candidate.
However, Bello urged the court to dismiss the suit.
The former governor claimed he polled 72,399 votes to win the primary, while Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke scored 319 votes and the plaintiff scored 188 votes to come last.
Bello described plaintiff’s claims as contrived and misleading, arguing the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1085/2026 lacks merit and is not supported with affidavit as required by law.
After hearing arguments, Justice Ekwo adjourned to November 19 for judgment.
