The tragic incident occurred on Ajidi Street in Edjeba, where the deceased and the suspect were said to have been staying together for several days before the woman’s death.

Residents said the victim was seen alive and moving freely around the neighbourhood on Tuesday evening. Some neighbours recalled seeing her purchase food items just hours before the incident, making the news of her death even more disturbing to community members.

According to sources in the area, panic broke out in the early hours of Wednesday when unusual screams were allegedly heard coming from the apartment occupied by the couple.

Concerned by the disturbance, the landlord reportedly alerted security operatives, who immediately responded to the scene.

Police officers who arrived at the apartment were said to have discovered the lifeless body of the young woman inside the room. Her remains were subsequently evacuated to a mortuary for further examination and possible autopsy.

The boyfriend, described by residents as a suspected internet fraudster, was reportedly taken into custody by the police for questioning as investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

The incident attracted a crowd of shocked residents, many of whom gathered near the apartment discussing the tragedy and expressing concern over the increasing cases of violent crimes involving young people.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the community was still struggling to come to terms with the incident.

“We saw the lady yesterday. She was walking around and looked normal. Nobody expected that by this morning she would be dead. It is a very painful situation,” the resident said.

As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

The development has sparked renewed concerns among residents about domestic violence, youth involvement in crime and the need for greater vigilance within communities.

Police investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the woman’s death and establish whether foul play was involved.
