The Benue State Police Command has presented insurance cheques to families of officers who lost their lives in active service.
The presentation was made at the Command Headquarters in Makurdi on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Command’s spokesman, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, said the gesture was part of efforts by the Inspector-General of Police to support families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Presenting the cheques, Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus C. Nwadiobu, conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, to the bereaved families.
He said no financial assistance can compensate for the loss of a loved one, but the insurance benefits are meant to provide relief and support.
Nwadiobu urged beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously to address immediate needs and support their families, especially the children of the deceased.
He said the Command remains committed to the welfare of personnel and their families and will continue to support IGP’s initiatives for officers and families affected by loss in service.
