Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has directed unions of tipper and quarry operators to suspend the recently announced increase in truck loading fee for sand and other quarry materials.
The directive was conveyed by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Jaiyeola Alabi, during a meeting with executive members of the Unions of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria (UTQEN), Association of Sand Quarry Operators, Tipper Owners and Suppliers, Laterite Suppliers and Sand and Quarry Suppliers, and the United Quarry Association.
The meeting was convened following complaints over the hike in loading costs.
Engr. Alabi said Governor Aiyedatiwa remains committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses while ensuring operators do not impose undue hardship on citizens, noting the rising cost of living and building materials.
He directed the unions to put the increase on hold pending further consultations. The meeting was adjourned to Friday, September 18, 2026.
President of UTQEN, Taiwo Odetola, thanked the government for its intervention but said diesel and operational costs forced the hike. He promised to consult members and revert.
