The Osun State All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the Accord Party of plotting to forge election result sheets for the August 15 governorship election in order to declare “pseudo results” and cause confusion in the state.
In a statement signed late Tuesday by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that Accord leaders planned to manipulate the results in favour of their candidate, claiming there was “leaked information” about the scheme.
The party said the alleged plan was borne out of desperation, arguing that the people of Osun had rejected the incumbent administration over its performance in the last three years.
“We are pleading with the national election umpire to keep the Accord Party chieftains and their foot soldiers on a very close watch in order to bungle their planned nefarious activities which could affect the conduct of the election,” the statement said.
The APC also urged the Osun State Police Command and other security agencies to investigate the allegation and expose those behind it.
“Is it by force to serve the people who have seen in the past three years that the best of the incumbent governor cannot be optimally beneficial to the innocent people of the state?” Olabisi asked.
The party added that desperation was “antithetical to democratic norm” and pledged not to resort to any illegal means to claim victory.
“As a political party having the rules of law as its pathfinder, we pledge not to result to any untoward means to claim an underserved victory which could cause crises in the state.”
The Accord Party is yet to respond to the allegations as of press time.
