Domestic airlines have resumed flight operations after aviation unions suspended their industrial action over the dispute on remittance of the five percent Ticket Sales Charge, TSC.
Speaking on Tuesday Osifo-Whiskey Efe, spokesperson of Air Peace, said the airline had resumed operations but was working to clear the backlog of passengers stranded by the disruption.
Efe said Air Peace, which operates about 70 regional and international flights daily, had cancelled 29 flight as of Tuesday afternoon, with more cancellations possible.
“We have a programme of at least 70 flights a day. At the moment, we have cancelled 29 and counting. So we don’t know how many of our flights will be cancelled today,” he said.
He added that the unions announced at the airport that the action had been suspended temporarily and that they would “continue tomorrow” with other airlines.
United Nigeria Airlines also announced the resumption of operations, saying its morning flights were affected. It urged affected passengers to contact customer service for updates.
The disruption had affected access to terminals at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
NCAA Director-General, Chris Najomo, had appealed to the unions to embrace dialogue. He said a meeting convened by Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, last week did not hold because airline operators failed to attend.
The Airline Operators of Nigeria had earlier warned against the action, citing high fuel costs and multiple charges threatening airline survival.
