The Anambra State Police Command has intervened with financial assistance to secure urgent medical care for a 10-year-old boy who was severely abused by his guardians in Isiowulu, within the Idemili North Local Government Area.

The child’s plight gained widespread attention after a distressing video surfaced on social media, showing extensive injuries and scald burns across his body. The wounds were allegedly inflicted by the woman and her husband who served as his guardians. The boy is currently under state protection while receiving treatment.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the command moved to provide financial relief after operatives observed the severity of the victim’s injuries and trauma.

According to Ikenga, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka are driving the welfare initiative. The gesture highlights the command’s broader focus on protecting vulnerable demographics, particularly minors, and ensuring victims of domestic violence receive swift rehabilitation.

“The gesture underscores the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the society, especially children, and ensuring that victims of abuse receive the necessary care and support,” the statement read. “The Command has intensified its investigation into the incident and is committed to ensuring that all individuals found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law.”

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured the public that the command will continue working alongside human rights organizations, child protection agencies, and community leaders to uphold child welfare laws across Anambra State. He emphasized that the intervention reflects the core law enforcement values of justice and compassion championed by the Inspector-General of Police.
