Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered immediate issuance of queries to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of 3-3 Police Station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, while directing commencement of disciplinary proceedings against an Inspector of Police over missing armed robbery suspect.
Spokesman of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the CP gave the directives on October 5 after personally interviewing the complainant and officers concerned over a viral video alleging that an armed robbery suspect arrested and brought to the station could not be accounted for.
The police boss described allegation as serious and capable of undermining public confidence in the Police, stressing that Command would not condone any act of unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or compromise of established procedures by any officer.
The Commissioner has consequently directed X-Squad of the Command to conduct thorough investigation into circumstances surrounding arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts of suspect, including actions and responsibilities of officers involved.
He disclosed that necessary operational measures have been put in place to facilitate arrest of suspect, while assuring members of public that Command would communicate outcome of investigation when established.
The CP cautioned members of public against circulation of unverified information capable of prejudicing ongoing investigation, noting that facts must be established through due process.
He reiterated that accountability remains core component of Command’s leadership philosophy, and that no police officer is above scrutiny or established disciplinary process.
